 We are living at a time of growing division in the world, based on a false understanding of each other's religions and beliefs. It is now more important than ever that all children, and as many adults as possible, learn about the world's great religions. We need to understand and respect each other's beliefs. And we can gain a deeper understanding of our own religious tradition by studying other traditions. But even more important, at this time, we need to be reminded of how often religious difference has been misused throughout history to whip up hatred and of the terrible consequences humanity has endured, over and over again, in war, suffering and injustice.
